December 2018 Newsletter

OK, the tree is lit, the Tree Lighting celebration is complete.  Thanks to all who came out to welcome in the season with song, hot chocolate and Sister Schuberts delicious cinnamon rolls.  Please check out the Chamber facebook page for pictures.

Last Thursday was the judging day for the Window/Door Decorating Contest and the winners were announced that night at the Tree Lighting.   

Religious Category – the winner is This N That Antiques and Collectibles   Whimsical Category – the winner is Main Street Bargains, runner up Living Water Coffee Shop                            
Traditional Category – the winner is Corner Clock Cafe, runner up BB & T.
Congratulations and Thanks to all who participated – there is no way to describe the hours of effort and planning that went into these creative decorations…….PLEASE stop in and admire and let the store owners know you appreciate their putting Luverne truly in the Christmas spirit.  They are ALL winners…….Gary Mitchell, sponsor of the contest, thanked everyone who participated.  Check out the Chamber and Celebrate Luverne facebook pages for pictures of winners and participants.

As you shop in Crenshaw County, take time to register for our SHOP LOCAL PROMOTION at over 50 merchants.  Register each time you shop and maybe you will win a gift certificate of $25 or $50, winners to be drawn December 12th.  Look for the Christmas bag with registering information.  It is extremely important that we spend money locally to support our friends and neighbors who depend on local shoppers…….at this giving time of the year, let us give back to those who make our life more convenient by always being there.

Butler Land & Timber is also a new Chamber member, although a long time Crenshaw County business.  Their real estate signs are seen all over the County as they assist people in selling or relocating. Chamber of Commerce Christmas Parade – Saturday, December 8th.  The parade will start at 11 a.m. from the Old Armory at 6th St. and Franklin.  Lineup begins 9-9:30 a.m.  We hope you are planning to enter the parade with a float, car, truck, walking group or horse & Buggy……Please follow the instructions of the Parade Marshalls at the lineup site as they turn chaos into a wonderful welcome to the Christmas season.   Call the Chamber office at 334-335-4468 to register your parade entry or respond to this email with the name of your group and a phone number for reference.  We are excited to host this annual event.  .Local stores will be open for your shopping pleasure and we earnestly hope you will “shop ’til you drop” in Luverne that day!!!  Remember, local stores are owned by your friends, relatives and local people……..your shopping dollars are very important to them……..forget your “list” and see what you can find in your Hometown to complete your shopping…….. SHOPPING CAN BE FUN !!

The Nativity is presented by the LUMC Youth and includes a variety of live animals. Hot refreshments will be served on the Dei Center portico.

And from LBWCC – the following scheduled for December 15th.Make and Take Gingerbread House

 LBW Community College- Luverne Center is offering a one-day “Make and Take Gingerbread House” course with instructor Jackie Sport. This class is for ages 4-12 and a parent or guardian must accompany the child. The class will be held on Saturday, Dec. 15, 2018,  1 – 3 p.m. in the drill hall area of the Luverne Center.

 Participants will decorate their house as they wish. Includes tray for building house on for transporting it home. Candies may vary according to the kit chosen.Space is limited. The course fee is $25 and this includes a $5 supply fee. Registration deadline is Nov. 30, 2018. Participants may register in person in the Student Services office Monday – Thursday, 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. or Friday, 8 a.m. – Noon. For more information, call (334) 335-2187 ext. 7094 or email lelliott@lbwcc.edu.
